OUT IN TECH APPOINTS FIRST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND ELECTS FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT

2016 EXPANSION TO NEW U.S. CITIES

NEW YORK, NY (February 2016) – Out in Tech, the world’s largest 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to LGBTQ aspiring tech leaders, has appointed its first full-time executive. Andrew Lowenthal joins Out in Tech as executive director at the previously volunteer-led organization with chapters in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. In this newly created role, Lowenthal will drive Out in Tech’s national expansion, steward its local chapters, and grow its youth mentorship program for LGBTQ teens and young adults.

Previously, Lowenthal served as chief operating officer for new and charter schools at the New York City Department of Education. He boasts 10+ years of management experience in the public sector. Notably, Lowenthal served under U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry on the Obama administration’s Recruitment Task Force, an initiative to promote diversity hiring among the nation’s 2.1 million federal employees. Lowenthal held this position while a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Department of State. Lowenthal earned a MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics.

“Out in Tech is poised for significant expansion. I look forward to steering the organization’s growth both geographically and programmatically,” says Lowenthal. “Our organization is redoubling its efforts to serve the LGBT community and its allies. We’re committed to investing in volunteerism and professional learning opportunities to bring even greater value to our members and the tech industry as a whole.”

Kara Lee, analyst at Sprinklr, a startup valued at over $1 billion, now serves as Out in Tech’s first female president. Lee shares, “I am delighted to announce Andrew’s appointment and it’s my privilege to lead our committed board of directors, who bring a wealth of experience across the sector. Given the underrepresentation of women in tech, I look forward to serving an organization that has embraced gender diversity.”

Out in Tech believes in the power of technology to improve our world and recognizes the lack of diversity representation, empowerment, and participation in tech-related fields.
